From Palatines to Pennsylvanians: Researching PA Germans In A Nutshell (pdf download)

This 6-page guide describes research methods and resources (and gives links for online sources) for tracing the first wave of German immigrants who made up about 1/3 of Pennsylvania's population by the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. It continues with the second wave after about 1820 which brought most Germans to the midwest but who may have followed earlier immigrants. Both American and European sources for tracing these immigrants back to their home village are included, including ship lists, church records, and publications like Ortsippenbüchen and the Meyers-Orts Gazetteer.
